SEND ME LETTERS!

Ashley Stafford, PCV

Peace Corps

P. O. Box 208

Lilongwe, Malawi

This is my address for the whole time! So get writing! 🙂

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Write “Air Mail” AND “Par Avion” on all envelopes.
  • Number ALL Letters.
  • Mail takes a minimum of 2-3 weeks to arrive, often longer.
  • Letters cost $0.98 to mail.
  • Packages take 6-9 weeks for air mail, and surfaces mail packages take around 6 months.
  • ** Especially for packages – please draw religious symbols or write biblical verses on packages and envelopes in RED INK. This will help detour theft. I have heard even putting things in tampon/pad boxes will help too!**
  • Visit this link for USPS International pricing: http://www.usps.com/prices/priority-mail-international-prices.htm#M
  • Keep packages small and try to use padded envelopes as it will be treated as a letter!
  • Do not send perishable food items (fruit, meat, etc. chocolate is ok tho! :))
  • Do not send valuables since there is no guarantee I will get it.
  • Do not claim a significant value if at all, as it will help prevent theft of any packages sent.
  • Peace Corps encourages letters written on weekly or bi-weekly basis, as this will be the biggest form of communication I will have with home.
  • Mail is sporadic so try not worry if you do not receive my letters regularly – in fact, in most cases: no news is good news 😉

Care Packages will save my sanity 🙂

(Plus you can write them off on your taxes!)
