Ready for it?

Yep. It’s done. I’ve submitted my application!
It was indeed a grueling process, they aren’t lying! Although, honestly, not as terrible or long as I thought. The most difficult part is making sure all your information is accurate and up-to-date, and writing well thought out essays that may put you a step ahead the rest.
The first essay is a cross-cultural experience that shows you have the skills and experience of being involved with another culture.
The second essay is a motivational statement – why you want to join and how that applies to past experiences and future goals.
Oh ans both could only be 250-500 words! Eeek! I barely made it, in fact my motivational statement was exactly 500.
So, the first step is done. I’m really on my way to becoming a Peace Corps Volunteer. The decision to apply was one thing, but now it really feels real. The application process certainly is a test of will regarding your reasons for going. To articulate why you want to do this so badly, really forces you to reflect on yourself.
Now comes the first stage of waiting, of a long line of more waiting. After submitting my application, I was informed it will take 3-4 weeks to hear from the recruiting office in Dallas regarding my application and possible interview. Cross your fingers every one!
And time for bed…
Thanks for following my blog! There will be a lot of highs and lows during the application process, but hang in there! My placement officer said she would contact me in mid to late September, so hopefully I hear soon. Good luck as you go through this process; it sure can be a harrowing one at times.
